HTC has just announced their latest handset to arrive in the US - the S743, a 3G network supported version of their S740 phone.
This phone is a non-touch WinMo 6.1 device with a nice slim form factor and a really handy front facing numeric keypad and a slide out QWERTY keyboard. Awesome! I think I love it.
Are you in the market for a new Windows Mobile phone? Well the good folks over at Mobile Tech Review have just posted up a very detailed and lengthy video review of the new Sony Xperia X1. They are “very impressed” with this WinMo device:
The hardware is impeccable, the panels are both fascinating and useful, and of course there’s no carrier bloatware! Though other phones offer many of the same features, somehow the Xperia X1 has that special sauce where the whole is greater than just the sum of its features. It’s fun, it’s cool and it offers very good entertainment possibilities while also being a very good business device thanks to Windows Mobile, the hardware keyboard and push email. The Xperia is perfect for power users and those who like something new and different (courtesy of panels), and it’s priced at the high end where mostly power users tread. If you’re just looking for an affordable Windows Mobile touch screen phone with a single user interface, the Xperia isn’t for you.
First user manuals and full spec sheets, now official press releases - Verizon Wireless‘ Samsung Omnia is getting a lot of time in the spotlight this week!
This video (via Popular Mechanics) should get you up and surfing the web in no time!
You’re right - I’ve already posted a how-to on connecting your WinMo phone to your laptop (see “How-to: Internet Sharing - love between a laptop and a Windows Mobile phone“) but many people are still confused as to how to get this up and running. The above video outlines the steps needed to turn your smartphone (the video uses a Samsung Jack Windows Mobile phone) into a wireless modem via Bluetooth. It’s very easy to follow and should have you connected in no time!
Iconsoft Phone Extension is an app for WinMo touchscreen devices and it’s a new type of user interface for managing the main functions of a telephone, built on the basis of the Iconsoft Mobile Engine. The app makes your UI look vaguely like that of the iPhone’s which isn’t a terrible thing. Other features include:
• Convenient and intuitive interface
• Interaction using simple touch (without stylus)
• Photo contacts (including SIM contacts)
• Individual tune for calls (including SIM contacts)
• Expanded call history for each contact
Motorola’s co-Chief Executive Sanjay Jha has been tasked with reviving Motorola’s sales after a serious loss of market share to its competitors Nokia, Samsung and Sony Ericsson.
“One of the worst things is if you go to a company and things are not well but there’s not a sense of crisis. That’s not the case here,” he said Thursday. “People understand that changes need to occur and are very open to changes.” Click through to read how Motorola plans on revitalizing its business
phoneArena has just let me in on some late-breaking news given to them by an anonymous tipster about the HTC Touch Pro, Saga (CDMA version of the Epix), and Renown.
Looks like the Samsung Saga I770 (CDMA version of the Epix) can be ordered via the Internet and Telesales on Nov 14th for $199 with a 2-year contract (after $70 rebate). It features Dual-band CDMA, EVDO Rev A, Quad-band GSM, WiFi 802.11g/b, Windows Mobile 6.1 Pro, Office, Opera and IE Mobile, Bluetooth, 2.55″ 320×320 pixel display, 2MP camera, microSDHC support up to 16GB, and comes with a SIM card pre-installed. Included in the box are adapters for use with the wall charger in other countries. Hint hint.

I know and am extremely upset by the fact that the HTC Touch HD isn’t coming to the U.S. as I am Canadian and well, if it doesn’t hit the U.S. we’ll likely never see it either. But there’s still hope, WinMo enthusiasts - HTC keeps mentioning that other great products are in store for North America. And, though they didn’t give out any real details, one of these upcoming ‘great’ products could be the “HTC T8290″ (codename, of course).
This device is set to launch soon on Russia’s Yota network and features - not HSPA (HSDPA and HSUPA) - but WiMax! Sounds pretty cool. Now, it’s only speculation at best but since the first WiMax network in the U.S. has just so recently launched, there’s hope! Keep your fingers crossed.
Rumour has it that an yet-unnamed wireless carrier in the US will soon have its hands on Palm’s Treo Pro Windows Mobile handset - a handset that is also rumoured to be unlocked and for direct sale.
AT&T? T-Mobile? No real news yet, but speculation has it that it will be AT&T Mobility.

When's the planned date for this? I have to say, I'll believe it when I see it.

Is is possible to do the opposite? I want my WinMo to use internet connection from my PC via USB. Is it possible?
Have you played with a Touch Pro or a Diamond, Dave? Any big differences between yours and those? I'm very curious!
