Motorola’s co-Chief Executive Sanjay Jha has been tasked with reviving Motorola’s sales after a serious loss of market share to its competitors Nokia, Samsung and Sony Ericsson.
“One of the worst things is if you go to a company and things are not well but there’s not a sense of crisis. That’s not the case here,” he said Thursday. “People understand that changes need to occur and are very open to changes.”

As prominent as BlackBerry may seem to be in the world market, apparently this is not actually the case. Well, at the very least not the case in Asia. In fact, BlackBerry is really only established in the US market. Springboard Research has put out some statistics that claim, in fact, that Windows Mobile outsells RIM in Asia-Pacific 6 to 1. RIM only managed to ship 1 million of their devices versus to Asia versus the 6 million that our hero Windows Mobile was able to ship.
So, what are the reasons behind RIM’s inability to woo on the worldwide market? Well, for starters Windows Mobile is cheaper to own. There’s no real need for an expensive data plan and the Blackberry Enterprise Server can be very expensive, indeed.

Verzio’s Envii, quite popular in Asia, has got a pretty strong start in the Windows Mobile world. While it only comes loaded with Windows Mobile 6.0, it does have some pretty impressive specs: 624MHz CPU, 1GB ROM, 2.7-inch QVGA screen, triple-band GSM with 1900 and 2100MHz UMTS / HSDPA, Bluetooth, and WiFi. The hardware is pretty solid, and the software is pretty standard aside from “Verzio Flick Dynamic” which appears to be some kind of Touch UI menu which may be some type of Touch UI (some kind of proprietary application switcher), but it’s not clear and Verzio’s site wasn’t too forthcoming. No word on pricing or availability, but check out Verzio’s site if you’re dying for more.

A new report on Business Wire suggests that smartphones will capture 22% of the mobile market in Asia by the end of this year.
A company named Research and Markets compiled the report, which lists 5 “hot topics” for mobile operators and manufacturers this year. Beyond the predicted rise to 22% in the Asian market, the author says that competition in the OS sector will increase and Mobile Linux will be on the rise; that UI innovation will increase dramatically, and even that smartphone companies will merge with UI companies to get an edge on the competition; that touch screens will be used on more and more phones; and that GPS and and Location Based Services based GPS will be the next “killer app” for the mobile market.

When's the planned date for this? I have to say, I'll believe it when I see it.
My T-Mobile buddy that is a devoted HTC fan and sold on WinMo wouldn't touch that thing with a 10 foot pole. I guess he has Shadow bitterness issues.
Is is possible to do the opposite? I want my WinMo to use internet connection from my PC via USB. Is it possible?
Have you played with a Touch Pro or a Diamond, Dave? Any big differences between yours and those? I'm very curious!
