How-to: Word completion settings

inputwordcompletiontabWant your phone to suggest words when entering text? Want your phone to help correct your spelling and grammar? Sure, this may seem like a no-brainer to you, but I know for a fact that there are plenty of you out there that have never even seen these settings on your phone let alone have them enabled! (Or, if you’re like me and HATE when your phone changes your ‘hehe’ to ‘here’, have them disabled).

Check out some instructions after the jump on how to get your phone set up to do these things and more.

To find these settings, load up the ‘Settings’ menu and find “Input”.

Although the labeling and precise set of options available changes with Windows Mobile version you should be able to configure the following types of word completion features:

“Suggest words when entering text” — By selecting this option, you’ll enable a popup list of suggestions for possible ways to complete the word currently being typed. This makes text messaging a breeze, once you get the hang of it.

“Add a space after word” — By selecting this, a space will be automatically inserted after a word from the popup suggestion box is used.

“Enable Auto Correct” — This option is my favourite. No more apostrophes! When I type “youre” it knows that you mean “you’re” and it auto-corrects it. Saves time and effort.

However, word to the wise, if you’re prone to using pseudo-English expressions like “hehe” and “lolwut?” and “orly” like I am, you may find yourself spending more time correcting the ‘auto corrected’ words! No, I did not mean “here”, “walnut?” or “only”. Don’t be such a square, WinMo.

I want to disable this stuff. I have done the reverse everything mentioned above to turn it off, but it still keeps coming back. How do I kill it for good?
