So many ZunePhone rumours, so much denial!

*Real ZunePhone may be larger and more in charge than seen here

Alright - let’s get some conversation going, my dear reader, about the rampant rumours that Microsoft will be getting its own branded phone - Maybe a Zune phone? Maybe something even cooler?

We’ve reported on these rumours a few times, but I’d love to hear what you think!

Sadly, most sources near and dear to Microsoft are denying these rumours. Jessica Hodgson from Dow Jones Newswires, for example, just reported today that ‘Contrary to rampant market speculation, software giant Microsoft Corp. has no plans to launch a branded mobile smartphone, a person familiar with the company’s thinking said Tuesday.’ Boo! How cool would an NVIDIA + 700mhz Tegra processor powered Zune phone be? Very cool.

But, hey, here’s some food for thought - why would Microsoft buy Danger for $500 million dollars? I, personally, will be very disappointed if Microsoft doesn’t make the most of its Danger buyout. There’s so much potential there! Danger has mentioned a couple times to the press that there are areas which Microsoft and Danger overlap - but maybe that doesn’t mean hardware. What about Microsoft’s new TouchFLO 3D technology? Or the recent popularity of panels?

What do you think? Rumour… or Zune rockin‘-music playin‘-Tegra packin‘-truth?

Microsoft used to be a brand based on innovation, but now all they do is try to play catch-up with much better companies. About the only place that they lead the market is in gaming.

I would say that I’m glad they are trying to play catch-up. For the most part, that’s how the industry works, right? If they can’t at least catch-up to what’s popular out there, no sense in being in the business.

I’m not sure why people are surprised that Microsoft and other companies are trying to/have made iPhone competitors/clones.

There’s money to be had. That’s business.

Until they make a phone that cooks me dinner, I don’t care that I can run my greasy fingers all over its interface.

HOWEVER, if I was Microsoft, I would take a financial stake in every company in the world right now. Good time for cheap deals, I’m sure.
