…I am!
The No Reboot Challenge, as proposed by Mobile Jaw, challenges Windows Mobile users to see how long they can go without rebooting (hard or soft) their Windows Mobile devices before they start acting strange or crashing. To make it even more difficult, you’re not allowed to stop any processes either. The only programs you can close are the ones that give you the Exit option in their menu.
Mike Temporale of Mobile Jaw started the No Reboot Challenge by hard resetting his Samsung BlackJack II so that only the production ROM was left. He then got all of his contacts, calendars, etc. back by syncing his phone via ActiveSync (WMDC for you Vista users) and re-installed a limited number of his must-have applications. Other notable mobile bloggers (other than yours truly, of course) have taken up the challenge as well including Chris Spera of Gear Diary and Dieter Bohn from WMExperts.
Personally, I’ve never really been grieved by having to reboot the machine. Now, whether or not that’s because I haven’t had to do it all that frequently or, as a PC user, I’m used to rebooting Windows (wah-waaah). Could be either, really. It is a great test of how stable Windows Mobile is, not matter which version you’re running. You might be surprised!
So, I ask you WinMo users - can you do it? Let’s get a little tally going here. Let me know how your No Reboot Challenge is going! I’ll keep you posted on mine. Consider this to be Day One… (cue the spooky music).
