Well, well well — it looks like Phone Arena got their wonderfully nerdy little hands on some leaked documentation on the HTC Touch Diamond and HTC Touch Pro for Sprint and Verizon, and - uh oh - it looks like Verizon’s going to limit their version of the Diamond. The overall idea is still the same, thankfully, with both having a 2.8-inch screen, EV-DO Rev. A, 3.2-megapixel autofocus camera, 802.11b/g, 1340mAh battery, internal GPS, and Bluetooth 2.0. What’s really different is in the processor and RAM.
Sprint has a Qualcomm 7501A processor running at 528MHz with a 32MB ISM, and Verizon has a Qualcomm 7500 running at 400MHz with a 54MB ISM. Sprint’s device is looking slightly faster, but has less RAM internally which is a huge deal breaker for most. On the memory side, both have 256MB ROM, but Sprint has a 256MB RAM as opposed to Verizon’s 128MB. That’s half the amount of RAM on Verizon so you can expect all kinds of slow downs there. But you do get an SD expansion slot with Verizon, so that’s… something… I guess.

Over on the Pro side, the relative processors and RAM are the exactly same (Sprint gets 256MB RAM while Verizon only has 128MB), but both devices have a 512MB ROM. Sprint’s has a motion sensor on both phones while only having an SD expansion slot on the Touch Pro. From what Phone Arena’s readers say, Sprint will have a 30 day exclusive head start on the two phones, starting on or around September 2.

I would like an update or maybe a release date of these phones to the sprint carrier, if possible
You and me both!
The closest we know is purely from hearsay — that Sprint’s Touch Pro and Touch Diamond will be released in the first few days of September, and the Touch Diamond (and likely the Touch Pro as well) is rumoured to be released to Verizon about a month later.
That’s all I know for now, though. When I know more, I’ll be sure to post right away - lots of people craving the HTC Touch devices including myself!
Iwas told by a reliable source at Sprint the Touch would be released on the 2nd of Sept. The Pro Later in November with a Date still pending…. There were no prices released to internal sources as of this morning on Aug 11th 2008.
I spoke with Sprint USA in the mid-west this morning. I was told the release date for the Touch Diamond has been set back do to a hold by HTC. Perhaps there are some issues needing a fix. The release date for the Touch Pro will be in October, along with the other new releases designated for the fall.
Oooh issues — I hope not! I have high hopes for this device. HTC’d better not let me down. They wouldn’t like me when I’m… disappointed. Heh.
I guess it’s good they’re fixing all the little bugs before the launch, but I’d really hoped they’d be done by now.
Thanks for the info! Here’s hoping we’ll see it in October!
i heard to day from the sprint store that the touch pro would release some where around October the 17th
October 17th? That’s good news. Here’s hoping!
OCT 17!!!! im really loking forward to getting it - but then again i might just wait on the HTC touch HD!!!
I hear ya, Ricki - I’m a big fan of the Touch HD too. Can’t wait till it comes out!
Let us know what you decide!
When is release date HTC Diamond in Verizon???
Sadly, GGHTC, there’s no official (or even rumoured) release date for the Diamond on Verizon. Frustrates all of us, for sure!
I promise, I’ll do some spying and see if I can’t come up with an answer or two.
I’ll get back to you!
I am wondering about the verizon one and hoping they wise up. I personally would prefer to wait an extra month and get the phone with full specs, but that’s just my 2 cents.
Service Rep Today confirmed a push back (Not at all Suprising) of the Release date for Sprint on the Touch Pro to Nov 2 (which will be pushed back to Dec no doult)
Grrrr!
Better be out for Christmas!
i was looking at the specs for the touch pro and saw that sprint doesnt list the second camera used for video calls on the PRO that they are selling but it lists it on the HTC website. if i buy the phone from sprint will i have that 2nd camera on the phone to do video calls?
