Orange nearly launches TyTN II WinMo 6.1 update… almost

Orange Shop

Tucked away, deep down in the Orange website is this, a page showing how great the new Windows Mobile 6.1 Upgrade for the HTC TyTN II will be. Unfortunately, as I type, there’s no actual link to the ROM - just a page telling you what’s updated in the new upgrade.

Yes, yes, we were told that this update would arrive “mid-May”, and yes it’s another “d’oh” moment from the Orange web team, but hey, at least there’s a little progress. A big high five goes out to anyone who sends me the actual download link… please.

Oh, and the links above will throw you into a “handset selection” screen - you need to choose the TyTN II, then choose “your phone’s features”, then choose “download software updates”. Yes, it should be easier than this, you’re right.

Update - The mighty xda-developers.com have managed to get a test build of the HTC TyTN II update (for the Orange UK network) here!

Thanks for posting about this - I’m a HTC Tytn II user in the UK and didn’t even know about this update until stumbling across this blog post!

Hey - no problem, Brendan, it’s what I do :)

I’m a HTC TyTN user (if you haven’t read much here), so I’m jealous of you and your fancy phone and brand new upgrade!

I’m partial to HTC, so be sure to keep checking out the site for all kinds of TyTN II stuff, there’s lots to be found.

Maybe I’ll do a hack guide for the TyTN II today, I’m sure there are lots of people out there wanting to mess with their phones :)

    Cheers, Brendan, thanks for reading!

Let me know if you want any hack tips from me for the HTC TyTN II - I’ve got more than a little! (although they’re more for the interested layperson than the dedicated ROM cooker…)

Orange UK have been quite good to me and just after Christmas they generally let me get the latest HTC handset for free - friends have been pretty impressed with my TyTN II and a couple have went out to buy one as a result. A lot of people might think, “a phone should just be a phone”, but I don’t - if I had to go back to a ‘basic’ phone these days it would drive me mad!

I absolutely agree — my friend often comment that my work phone looks like a little cement block, but for the amount that I can do with this cement block, I would never go back to a candy bar phone either.

As for hack tips, sure! Send them my way! bambi(at)windowsmobilecool.com, of course :)

I’m curious - what do you think of the HTC Diamond? Personally, I can’t get enough of it. So pretty with its flashy lil display and it’s sleek casing. But I am hearing some less than positive things about it.

    Any thoughts?
