First impressions: HTC TyTN

About two weeks ago I got an HTC TyTN. Now, let me tell you, before this TyTN I was using a Samsung SGH-d807. Despite it being ‘old’ in the technology sense of the word, it was a fantastic little phone. I have absolutely nothing bad to say about it. Our break up was mutual; I was tired of getting forwarded garbled text messages containing three recognizable words from my latest emails, and it was tired of me dying its chrome hot pink every time I used it (let me tell you, its silver bits are not hair dye friendly… or rather, is super hair dye friendly, heh.)

So, first impressions of the TyTN:
Pro’s:

  • It’s no where near as heavy as it looks.
  • It feels very sturdy.
  • The keyboard is really easy to use; the buttons are sloped in a really functional way so that you can feel the separate keys when you’re typing.

Con’s:

  • The soft keys seem to be completely redundant… so far. Maybe I’ll find a reason for them as I get more into using it regularly.
  • If you put the stylus in wrong it’s nearly impossible to get back out.
  • The voice speed dial button is poorly placed as I hit it nearly every time I pick up the phone to use it and since I don’t yet have any voice commands set, it really confuses the phone and it tends to freeze up a bit before reloading the home screen.

Here are some pictures of my HTC TyTN:

The back (camera with macro switch)

The right side (power and comm manager buttons)

Bottom (lock, infrared, mini usb)

Left side (scroll wheel, voice speed dial, OK button)
